These are the materials you will probably never see or have concern; until a tile shoots off the floor sounding like a gunshot, the laminate edges show peeking (raising at edges - the laminate underlayment manufacturers are responsible for excess moisture releasing from the concrete into the laminate causing the “peeking,”) you may have experienced glued down hardwood sounding hollow or releasing (some companies choose to float hardwoods, which will transform the hardwood into a temporary performance product like a laminate or carpet, the proper installation is gluing hardwood directly to concrete) or the cushion/padding under the carpeting might be shaved (to a lighter weight) causing the carpet to feel cheap whereas a good pad will make a lighter weight carpet feel extremely plush under foot.
